"18 year old male, found bleeding from the neck at the Sunnydale High School" An ambulance officer said as he crashed through the hospital doors will Xander on the bed.
Blood covered Xander and the bed he was on, it was serious and the doctors had to work fast.
Xander was confused, where am I? He thought, his vision blurred making it hard to define the images he saw. He could see several people hovering over him, from the white coats the best he could tell was that they were doctors.
His hearing was muffled. He couldn't understand a word of what the people around him were saying. "Can you hear me?" A doctor asked, although Xander didn't respond. "He's conscious, but he isn't responding to me" she informed another doctor.
Xander thought back to what bought him here, Angelus. He had bitten him to spite Buffy. She must have called an ambulance.
He wasn't sure what had happened after Angelus bit him, did Buffy slay him? It was stupid thinking that, of course she didn't. She can never kill a demon that has the face of her beloved, although she could seriously injure him.
Where's the pain? Xander thought. There wasn't any pain, just coldness, and desire to know what had happened to Buffy.
"Buffy" her name escaped from his lips, her name echoed through his mind, and then came the darkness.

Buffy hurried alongside the stretcher that had a very injured Xander Harris lying on it, looking pale and almost dead. Her cheeks were tear stained and her face was blank. How could she have let this happen to one of her best friends... and by her ex boyfriend?
She could barely hear the doctors talking about Xander's state, their voices were coming to her like a low buzz. Then she heard her name uttered and she gazed down at him, new tears coming from her now tired eyes.
"I'm here, Xander." She yelled to him, knowing somehow he'd hear her. Buffy watched as they wheeled him through the huge, white double doors and she ran to them, placing her hands on the glass that she could only just see through. "Please be okay, Xander..."

Even though all Xander could see was darkness, he could still here. He heard Buffy's response to him calling out. He reached out, not sure where he was reaching out to, and he grabbed Buffy's hand.
His hand slid out as the doctors pushed Xander through the emergency doors. "Buffy" he whispered, it hurt his throat when he spoke.
"Are you family?" A doctor asked Buffy, without waiting for he response, and knowing that she wasn't at all family, she nodded, "go on through, he needs someone to be with him." She walked to the door and pressed her key card against the automatic lock. A large buzz echoed through hallway and the doors swung open.
"Just stay out of the way" the doctor gave her a stern look.

Buffy continued to watch with wide eyes, not knowing if she could deal with Xander losing his battle to stay alive. After her mum died, she hoped she'd never lose someone she loved again, but this wasn't looking good.
A doctor brought her out of her reverie and she slowly turned her head to her, only just hearing her voice. "No but..." The doctor continued talking before Buffy could finish her sentence and she watched as the doors opened that Xander had just gone through. "Thank you." Buffy whispered and walked through in a daze.
She peered into every room until she came to the room with Xander in it. Buffy walked in and the doctors there didn't even take any notice of her, so she assumed that meant she could come in. "H... how is he?" Buffy asked the closest doctor, feeling tears build up at just the sight of her best friend.

Xander tried to smile when he saw Buffy appear into his room, although it proved to be a bit difficult when he kept slipping in and out of conciouness.
"Buffy" he said, but once again his voice cracked so it came out a bit more like 'butt-ugly'. He tried to sit up and reach out to Buffy, but when he seemed to get close enough to touch her, so invisible force would push him back down. The force was invisible to him, not so much to everyone else.
"Mr. Harris" a doctor said, "you're going to have to stay lying down so we can save your life" she said in something similar to an angry tone. "But Buffy" he replied, "she's right over there" another doctor said gentler.
And he slipped out of conciouness again.

Buffy watched Xander with concern, ignoring the way her name sounded when he forced it out of his mouth. It was good he was with them, but the way he kept slipping in and out of consciousness was worrying her.
She closed her eyes, almost in pain from seeing her best friend like this. And of course she couldn't get it out of her mind that it was her fault this had happened... everyone, including Xander, had warned her, but she'd ignored them. And now look what the result was. Buffy opened her eyes when she heard the doctor telling Xander to lie down and she badly wanted to hug Xander, to tell him everything was going to be fine.
"That's right, Xan... I'm here... I'm not going anywhere. I'll always be here." The last sentence she whispered when Xander again lost consciousness, so she wasn't sure if he'd heard her or not.
One of the doctors placed a hand on Buffy's shoulder, causing her to jump. "I'm sorry, miss, but it doesn't look good..." The doctor's face was grave and Buffy's eyes widened, her face going pale. "No... no, it can't happen again..." Buffy uttered, mainly to herself, while watching Xander.
The doctor that had his hand on Buffy's shoulder looked to a female doctor in question. "This woman lost her mother not long ago." She replied to the other doctor near Buffy quietly, explaining why Buffy was taking this so hard. Buffy hardly heard them.

Although Xander couldn't see his surroundings or speak to anyone out there he could still hear and feel. He could feel the how unusually cool the air was, he could feel himself slowly bleeding to death and he could feel the doctors as they worked frantically to save his life.
He could hear everything the doctors were saying although he didn't understand anything they were saying, he could hear them talk about Buffy's mother. And they were right, if he died Buffy would be broken, unable to do anything. Just slip into a depression that no one could bring her out of. That's what Xander thought.
Then the sound he dreaded most came. The loud continuous beep indicating that his heat had stopped.
And then he could see. The pain was gone, and so was the coldness. In fact he couldn't feel anything. He turned his head to heart monitor, questioning why it hadn't start beeping slow even beeps, but he saw himself. He was lying over his cold, dead body.
"Oh crap" Xander said. He turned away, unable to stare at himself any longer. He saw a doctor usher Buffy out of the room and close the curtain on her.
He suddenly appear beside Buffy, like in he transported there.
"Buffy help me" he said, hoping that she could hear him.

Buffy didn't take her wide eyes off Xander's body, not even when she heard the dull beep of the monitor. Didn't even look away as she was directed out of the room and didn't stop staring through the closed curtain like she could see through it. It would have been a full five minutes before Buffy finally took in what had happened. She let out a wail that was full of pain and that made all the doctor's in Xander's room wince with sympathy.
"Xander..." She crumpled into a heap on the ground and sobbed for a moment, then lifted her head like she'd just realised something. Jumping up, Buffy ran out of the hospital, not looking back when several nurses and doctors called out to her, referring to her as 'miss'.
She didn't stop running until she reached her destination... the Magic Box. Somehow, she knew the person she needed right now was there, not knowing what had happened or why. She only hoped said person would agree to help her...

Xander felt sympathy for Buffy, she was mourning over his death and he felt sorry for her. He had the urge to get down on the ground and comfort her, but it wouldn't help.
"Buffy" Xander cried, and then Buffy ran out of the hospital. "Buffy!" He called out to her, but as soon as her name escaped his lips he was in the Magic Box, and Buffy was walking through the door.
"Well that was handy" he joked. What was Buffy doing here, she looked like she was on a mission. Then it hit him, what she was doing.
"Oh no, Buffy don't do this" he said, although a part of him hoped that her plan will work.

Tara had been in the Magic Shop for quite some time now, sitting at the table where they held their Scoobie meetings. She had several books laid out in front of her, looking for a certain spell that she could practice. Of course she wouldn't mess with anything dangerous, only the very simple and safe ones where they ones she'd do, especially since she was alone.
She looked up as the door to the shop slammed shut, curious as to who it was and what their hurry was. "Can I help you... oh, Buffy. Hey." Tara gave the slayer a small smile, but it disappeared at the sight of Buffy's face. She looked horribly upset and like she'd thought, in a rush. Something was wrong... she could sense it.
"Buffy... wha- what happened? Are you alright?" Tara asked, concern etched in her voice.

"Buffy, Buffy, Buffy! You can't do this" he yelled at Buffy before she could respond to Tara's question, who until now Xander didn't even notice. He could tell from her face that she knew that something terrible has happened. And she was correct.
He knew from past experiences that what Buffy's planning on doing was the most stupidest idea, she's ever had. And Buffy of all people, having gone through the same thing. Xander couldn't understand what was going through her mind, and in truth he didn't want to know.
"You can't do this!" He screamed and turned around to avoid staring at her, he was furious at her. As he turned all the books on the shelves fell and hit the ground with a incredible thud.
"Did I do that?"

Blinking and furrowing her eyebrows seeing Buffy come into the room, Dawn looked up from one of the books she was studying from and frowned a little "Buffy...what's...?!" Cutting off there and seeing the books fall and hit the ground, she looked around startled "Ok...what was that?"
The younger Summers girl was pretty much not surprised much but that had evidently startled her. Biting her lip, she looked quickly at Tara then stood up to join her "Buffy...what's going on?"

Buffy's eyes finally focused on Tara... just who she needed. She hardly heard their questions of what had happened or what was wrong with her, she could still hear a loud buzzing in her ears that sounded like a badly tuned radio station.
She glanced over to the fallen books, not even blinking. In her state, she wouldn't have even guessed that could be Xander but just the books being a nuisance or some other invisible force. Buffy gazed at Tara and her sister for a few minutes before she found her voice. "It's... Xander. He's dead." Her tone was so blank, she sounded like she was telling them some boring fact, not that her best friend had just lost his life.
"Angel... Angelus bit him and I took Xander to the hospital, but he... died." She was now staring into space and she vaguely felt like she was a robot, just telling them information that she'd been told to give.

Dawn and Tara were just in the background, like they weren't there at all. So Xander thought, when he heard the way Buffy told them that he was dead, it was so blank and cold. Expressionless. He recognised this on Buffy, when her mother died.
Xander knew he was dead, but the way Buffy said it hit him hard.
Xander began hearing whispers, the whispers weren't coming from Buffy, Dawn or Tara. They seemed to have no point of origin. He saw flickers of shadows in the corner of his eye, and then another one followed by another and then another. The whispers were getting louder and then they just stopped. We're coming to get you.
Xander knew that his time in this plane was limited, and he was running out.

Willow went out into the shop, her heart jumped into her throat when she saw Tara and a smile lit her face. It faded immediately when she saw the look on Buffy's face and heard what she said, she felt her knees go weak and she had to grab hold of a chair to stop herself from falling over. Although her feelings for Xander were replaced with feelings for Tara, Xander was still one of her best friends. "No!" She gasped loudly and her legs gave way, making her crumple to the floor, head in hands sobbing.
