Buffy sat on the couch in her lounge room, holding a huge bowl of chocolate ice-cream and watching an old romantic movie. She glared at the TV as she dug her spoon into the ice-cream, feeling pretty mopey. It wasn't fair... how did these characters always have a happy ending?
"Come to the real world and see how long you last, dreamers." Buffy muttered darkly, pushing the spoon into her mouth and swallowing the creamy goodness with slight regret. She knew what she was doing was wrong, but she couldn't help it. She actually missed Angel, even though he'd made her life hell with Angelus. But since he came back, then left for L.A, she found herself more lonely than ever.
Buffy sighed, sick of the movie but with nothing else to do, she continued to scowl at the lovers on the screen.

Xander was shocked to see the scene before him, Buffy sitting on her couch eating ice cream, watching a sappy romantic movie. "There's something wrong with this picture," he began, "Friday night, bowl of ice cream and a Alfred Hitchcock movie, somethings wrong in the Summer's house," Xander moved over to the couch and sat beside Buffy.
Xander knew Buffy hadn't been all that happy since Angel left, but he didn't know to what extent. "Please tell me your not upset about Angel?" He asked, wishing she could find someway to move on from him.
"It's hard to see you this way Buffy, and it's not just me that thinks that, Giles does too," he said. "You know I'm here if you need to talk to me," he said, lying back waiting patiently for her to 'talk'. Without giving her time to respond her quickly added, "come on, you have to give me something to work with," he said impatiently.

Buffy didn't even glance up at Xander, her eyes glued to the TV still. "Do me a favour and disappear." She responded, eating another spoonful of ice-cream. She felt the couch sink even more as Xander sat down alongside her and she realised he wasn't going anywhere soon.
"Okay, I won't say it." Buffy sighed and dumped the spoon in the bowl with a clang. "But you know it already... and don't start the lectures, Xan... I've heard it all."
She whipped her head towards Xander now with slight anger. "Oh good, since Giles says so, I'm all better. Thank God for that!" Buffy took a deep breath and suddenly had an idea. She knew Xander still crushed on her and she did need a distraction from Angel. Putting the bowl on the floor, Buffy turned fully to Xander, a smile now in place.
"Say, Xander, how about you and me go out? You know, dancing, fun, Bronze... sound good?" Buffy looked down at her tattered, at-home-only clothes and grimaced. "I'll have to change though, unless the Bronze is having a Worst Dressed party."

Xander was slightly taken aback with Buffy's outburst, he was about to apologise and mention he was only trying to help, but Buffy began speaking again, he wasn't expecting Buffy to ask such a thing.
"A-a date?" Xander stumbled. He had definitely thought about it before, he has a crush on her since they met, not much has changed. But can it really work? the thought was resounding. "Okay" his voice climbed an octave. "I mean" he cleared his throat, "okay" he said again once his voice sounded normal.
"I am a bit hungry, so how about we get dinner first... I'll shout," he said peering into his near-empty wallet. "I'll just have to use my card," he laughed nervously.
He looked down at Buffy's clothing, although it wasn't appropriate to wear out for dinner, he had to say "you look beautiful," he smiled.
