Desired Character: Lorne
Appears in Angel, Buffy, or both?: Angel
Character description: This green empath demon prefers to be called Lorne. It’s simple, it’s short, and is something other than his original birth name-Krevlornswath. Lorne was born in the demonic dimension of Pylea, a horrid place that held humans as slaves and referred to them as ‘cows’. On top of that, Lorne’s family wanted to train him to become a warrior and use his empathic powers for use in battle. What could be worse than that? No, Lorne had a soft heart, a heart that longed for arts, culture, and most importantly, music…something that didn’t even exist in Pylea. In addition, Lorne held no animosity towards humans. So he fled, coming upon a portal that landed him in L.A., consequently becoming a shame to his family for all time.
Also, as a consequence, Lorne found his true home. In L.A, he developed the karaoke bar called Caritas, where demons, vampires, and humans alike can drink and sing in harmony….or rather, are forced as a result of a mystical spell that prevents violence of any kind within the bar. Nonetheless, business boomed, and Lorne used his empathic powers to read people’s auras and set them on their respective paths. He did this, however, by having them sing, because singing is a medium that allows for someone to truly bare their soul. There, he is known as ‘the host’. He felt settled and content being the entertainer, enjoying the music, and enjoying the life in a city where no one belongs.
That is, until he met Angel. Here was a vampire with a soul, someone dedicated to setting things right. Lorne helped him on his noble path once in a while, using his mental powers and his many, many connections within the city. But he quickly found himself growing deeper involved with the team, once his bar was destroyed not once, but twice by circumstances led on by the Angel Investigations team. After saving Cordelia and Fred in his home of Pylea (a place he never wanted to come back to), he helped Angel immensely, especially when Conner was born. He often acted as the babysitter for Conner while the gang was out fighting the good fight.
But Lorne was never really up for the warrior gig. He was all about doing what was right and he was rooting for the Angel team all the way, but he was really happiest on stage. So he left the team and headed to Las Vegas, where he headlined his own show. However, instead of just getting the glitz and glam, he was held prisoner, and forced to read people’s auras in order to remove the most ‘valuable’ destinies. Angel and the gang rescued him from that and he was back in the Angel Investigations team, knowing where his friends were.
Then, the gang moved to Wolfram & Hart and Lorne became head of the Entertainment Department, a perfect fit. But taking the evil from the inside out proved to be a very difficult task, being intoxicated with resources. Things took a turn for the worse, with a coming apocalypse and the death of some dearest friends, he found that he had enough of it. He had enough of sitting around and being Angel’s cheerleader. He left to pursue his own path, follow his own aura, and it no doubt included a great melody.

This guy is a sick puppy, Lorne thought as he watched the demon sing on stage from the bar. As the demon struggled to hit the keys of Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called To Say I Love You”, Lorne hid his urge to cringe by taking swallows from his glass of whiskey. It wasn’t so much the singing, but the major bad vibes he was getting from his aura.
Geez, I’d feel sorry for the guy if I didn’t know his food of choice was raw brains, Lorne concluded. The demon finally finished singing and Lorne sat his glass down on the bar.
“Bravo! Bravo!” he cheered, clapping enthusiastically, and he stood up and walked on to the stage. Patting the demon on the back he grabbed the microphone and said, “Thank you for that lovely rendition. You really put an original spin on it, sweetie. Looks like you’re the real ‘wonder’ in the room,” He then addressed the bar at large, lights from the stage hitting the brightness of his white suit jacket and silk purple shirt. He pulled up the stool and sat down. “Now folks, I’m looking out here and I got to tell you, you guys look great tonight.” He took the hand holding the mike and pointed to one of the regular vampires. “I see you over there Leroy. Lovin’ the hair.” He returned to addressing the audience.
“But you guys come from all walks of life…and un-life, respectively. Am I right? And we all end up in the same place, here in the busy streets of L.A. And L.A.’s got everything. Love, crime, jealousy, honesty, fun, chaos, and the Lakers all rolled up into one neat package. It’s easy to get lost in it all, isn’t it? Sometimes we got to lean on each other in order to deal with those burning questions that can come from all that tight nit, tapped up, packaging. The Bee Gees called on all of us to help them with a question that they asked of the world…” The music starts. “How deep is your love? How deep is your love?”
Show time.
“I know your eeeyess in the morn-niiiing sun…I feel you touch me in the pour-riiing rain….And the moment that you wander faaaar from me, I wanna feel you in my aaaarms again….”
