Buffy perched herself on the lounge, running a brush through her hair and making sure she hadn't creased her birthday dress. After she'd brushed it enough to satisfy her, she picked up a photo of Joyce Summers that was sitting on the coffee table. Buffy stared at her mother for a while, tears threatening to fall.
"I'm twenty-four now, mom. And still going strong... for Dawn and my friends." She smiled a watery smile, before adding, "I wish you were still here..." Before she completely broke down, Buffy placed the photo back on the stand and took a deep breath. "Oh and I should do this before the party starts... nothing better ruin this birthday, unlike all my others, or else..."
She sighed, knowing that was wishful thinking, her being the Slayer and all, but it didn't hurt to try. She now stood up and waited for everyone to arrive, excitement building up inside her. "Oh my God, I'm twenty-four, died twice and still alive. I'm good." Buffy smiled to herself in a smugly matter, then shook her head to rid of that expression.

Xander entered Buffy's house, he didn't bother to knock as he didn't think that she would mind. He immediately wished he had knocked. Buffy was on the couch, staring at a picture of Joyce. Witnessing Buffy having a break down, was nothing new to him, but it was hard to see.
Buffy was such a strong person, but seeing her in a moment of weakness had Xander lost on what to do to comfort her. He always had fears that when she approached him with her concerns that he'd say the wrong thing and make it worse.
"Oh you are good, no doubt about that" he smiled, and crossed the lounge room and sat beside her on the couch. He passed her a box of tissues that was on the coffee table.
"I'm sorry for not knocking, I didn't realise what I would be walking into" he said, staring at the dress she was wearing. "You look beautiful tonight, happy birthday" he said, smiling once again.

Walking down the stairs, Dawn clutched a box in her hand with pink wrapping on it. She had managed to save up enough money to get her sister the leather jacket that she had been eyeing for sometime and still had enough saved up to get her a new locket. Stopping to look at herself in the mirror, she ran a hand through her hair and smiled a little at the reflection.
She was determined to see that nothing happened tonight and also determined to see that her sister had a good birthday. She thought she owed it to Buffy for everything that she did for her. Stopping in the front room doorway and seeing Xander walk in and then hearing Buffy, she bit her lip as her eyes darted down to the photograph of their mother.
Biting her lip, she still knew it was tough for Buffy...heck...it was tough for her too but she was always hiding how truly tough it was on her about their mother's death. Looking back up, she forced a smile, seeing how Buffy was dressed and nodded, agreeing with Xander "Yeah Buffy...it's a great dress.." Sitting on the other side of her sister, she smiled and passed Buffy the box "Happy Birthday sis."

Smiling and hearing everyone in the house gathered in the front room, Willow walked into the living room carrying a long rectangular box. She had gotten Buffy a back massager thinking she could use it after her long nights of slayage.
Seeing first Dawn's expression then Buffy's Willow sighed, listening to Xander and looked down "Buffy....I'm sure Joyce is looking down on all of us right now and is especially proud of you and Dawn..." Smiling and sitting down in a chair opposite the coffee table, she set the box down on it and shrugged "Anyway...Happy Birthday Buff."

Buffy looked up, hearing Xander's voice. She beamed at him when he sat next to her and gave him a hug. "Thank you... for coming tonight and well, for everything." Again she felt those tears threaten to fall, but she hastily wiped her eyes. "I'll be okay." She told him, pushing the box of tissues away. This was supposed to be a fun-filled night full of happiness so Buffy made sure to not think about the bad things and focus on the good, like all her friends.
She then heard Dawn's voice and she turned her smile to her sister. "Thanks, Dawn." She took the gift Dawn handed her and gave her a peck on the cheek. "I'm glad you like the dress... it cost too much for no-one to like it." She laughed, for once not feeling bad for splurging on clothes... it was her birthday after all and she hadn't brought anything new in such a long time.
Willow then appeared and Buffy nodded after hearing what she'd said about Joyce. "I know... us Summer girls are tough and pride-worthy, huh Dawn?" She gave her sister a playful smile, instantly feeling better after having friends surrounding her, then pulled her attention back to Willow. "Thanks, Will. I'm glad you could come tonight." Buffy smiled gratefully at Willow, then noticed she was alone and added, "Is Tara coming?"

"Ah, don't mention it" Xander said, playfully punching her on the arm when she tanks him for coming.
His head turned to the doorway when he heard Buffy's voice. He was glad that Dawn was here for Buffy. Family and friends were something Buffy needed in her life right now.
As Willow entered and handed her a present it dawned on him that he was required to get Buffy a present. He look at the present Willow gave her in shock, and placed a hand above his mouth.
He quickly stood up next to Dawn and whispered to her, "we're we meant to get Buffy a present?"
"Oh well, I bet that Giles didn't get her a present either" he said, slightly relieved that Giles may haven't got her one.

Giles pushed the door opened with his foot, as his hands were full of grocery bags. He walked into the lounge room where everyone was. "Hey Buffy, happy birthday" he smiled, "I would give you a hug but my hands are full, so instead, I've planned something different for your birthday. I'm going to cook you dinner, I know that you. Well any of you haven't had a home cooked meal in a while. Not since Buffy began working at that fast food restaurant." He walked into the kitchen and placed the bags on the bench and walked into the lounge room again. "So what do you think of Oven Roasted Squid, stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes and Feta Cheese?" He asked, rubbing his hands together in delight. (OOC- Something I wouldn't eat personally )

Blinking, Willow looked at Xander then rolled her eyes "Yes..it's Buffy's birthday remember? Birthday normally equals getting a present for her..." Hearing Buffy mention Tara, Willow looked down and bit her lip "I...I'm not sure...she might come..." Swallowing a little, she looked at Dawn and smiled at her as Dawn seemed to watch her carefully then looked back at the doorway hearing Giles.
"Ummmm....Roasted...squid?" Blinking she looked at Buffy and Xander, trying to hide the shudder that threatened to go through her body at the sound of it then forced a smile looking back at Giles "Sound...great Giles...just great..."

Blinking and hearing Xander ask Willow about Tara, Dawn looked at Willow hoping that Tara would show up but felt her heart fall a little as Willow said she didn't know if Tara would come or not "I hope she does..." Smiling a little, she shrugged "I mean....it would be great having everyone here...ya know?"
Looking at her sister and hearing her say that Summers women are tough, she smiled again then nodded "Yeah...that's right..." Looking at Xander as he asked if he was supposed to get Buffy a present, Dawn sighed and shook her head "Duh Xander...it's like what Willow said...birthday equal presents equals Happy Buffy...." Smiling, she looked at the box she gave her sister and tapped it "Meanwhile...why don't you open the gifts now...to see what we got you? Mine first...I know that you're gonna love it..."
She had tried to save money for it, but her allowance was really down as they tried to make ends meet, what with Buffy having to get a job and all. The youngest Summers sister had always hid it but she felt bad about Buffy dying and everything...and had come to blame herself for it...something she tried to hide time and again. She went with some 'friends' to the mall and had come home with the jacket. She really hoped her sister wouldn't ask too many questions about it.
Hearing Giles say something about Roasted Squid, Dawn widened her eyes then swallowed a little, really feeling like she could gag at the mention of it "Um....yum....sounds great Giles..."

Buffy noticed Xander looking shocked and didn't actually realise why. Then she watched as he rose and spoke to Dawn quietly, tilting her head to the side in suspicion since she didn't bother trying to overhear him.
Her attention was diverted away though when Giles walked in. "Hi Giles, I'm glad you're here! Thank you and that would be nice." She smiled at him when he mentioned that he was cooking them dinner but her smile dropped in an instant as he added what exactly he was planning to cook. "Uhh, like I was saying, it sounds nice but... I've already got something planned. I'm sorry." She glanced at Dawn, shooting her a look that told her to go along with her lie.
Buffy's gaze went back to Willow and she frowned. "Is everything okay with you and Tara?" She now looked worried, hoping the same thing wouldn't happen to them as it did with Oz and Willow. Buffy had hated how much that had killed Willow inside and she did not want her best friend to suffer through that again. "I hope so too." She added after Dawn had said it would be good for everyone to be there.
Buffy smiled at Dawn, realising she hadn't been in a rush to open the presents. "Okay, if you insist." She told Dawn, ripped into the gift and lifted the lid off the box under the wrapping paper. Her eyes widened in both shock and awe while lifting out a leather jacket she'd wanted for quite some time. "Oh wow... thank you." She gave her a hug, too excited to ask Dawn how she'd been able to afford it.
Buffy then picked up Willow's gift, opening it and pulled out what looked to be a back massager. "Ooh thanks, Will!" She exclaimed, placing it on the coffee table. It was then Buffy realised what Xander had been saying and she glanced up at him, an amused smile on her face. "It's alright, Xander. Just you being here is a good enough present."

Xander was impressed by the present that Dawn had gotten Buffy. It was practical and something Buffy would use. "Nice present Dawn, where did you get the money?" He asked, aware of her's and Buffy's financial struggle.
He turned to Buffy when she assured him that it was alright that he hadn't gotten her a present. "Ooh, I'm worthy enough to be a present" he looked at Dawn and Willow with a 'sucked in' expression on his face. Then his face turned serious, "but you know what? I'm going to get you a present anyway."
When Giles entered with bags of groceries it was obvious to him that he was planning to cook tea. Although what he had planned no one seemed enthusiastic about.
"Well you know what? I'm glad to be getting a home cooked meal, squid or no squid. It sounds delicious Giles, so get your butt in that kitchen and start slaving away, like a woman!" He exclaimed, but then realised what he had said. "I mean... like a man" he corrected himself to avoid getting beaten by the girls in the room.

Blinking, Dawn bit her lip then forced a smile on her face as Xander asked her how she had gotten the money for the jacket. "I...er...saved my allowance money and baby-sitting money up for it." Looking away, she shrugged then smiled at Xander's expression and laughed quietly.
Hearing what he said about cooking like a woman, she raised an eyebrow and grabbed a couch cushion and launched it at him "God...just like a male chauvenist pig..." Laughing and hearing him change what he said, she grinned "Oh, you're good."

Blinking, Willow smiled a little and nodded "Thanks Buffy...glad you like it." Hearing her ask about her and Tara, she shrugged "Yes, everything's fine...she should be here I think...I'm not sure what's going on." Looking at the jacket that Dawn gave Buffy, she remembered the allowance that she gave Dawn and smiled a little "That's very responsible of you Dawn...I'm glad you did that..."
Hearing Xander mention something about cooking being a woman's job, she raised an eyebrow and grinned a little when he changed it around to say a man's job "You know Xander...I could always make you into a woman to see what we go through...it would only take a couple minutes..."

Creation. God's gift the world. Yet humans and the immortal alike forget the sacredness of creation itself, even their own. Luke lurked in the shadows, looking in the windows of the slayer's home. Her friends surrounded her, clearly celebrating a birthday. But the birth of a slayer is nothing to celebrate. Slayers are saturated in sin, unable to see clearly God's vision. They wander in this world, thinking they're fulfilling some higher purpose, but they are aimless, unable to see a few feet in front of them. They live. They fight in vain. And then they die. Then a new one comes. The slayers die, but God's glory is eternal. Luke had his sights set on the slayer tonight. He heard this particular slayer had a relationship with a vampire. Luke concluded that she was confused. Lost. Ignorant. Luke had his sights set on the slayer tonight because he wanted to show her the true weight of her creation and show her spiritual damnation that only a vampire could show her. (Luke will be lurking for now. I want to do something villainy but I'm not sure what yet )

Angel walked up to the house, slowly, hesitant to approach the door. He hadn't been there in so long. But it was Buffy's birthday. Angel thought it would be better to visit instead of doing the normal awkward conversation, the last one went a little something like this:
"hey"
"hey"
"Just wanted to say happy birthday"
"Thanks."
......
"So how are things in LA?"
"Oh. They're good. I uh...have a son now."
"....you do?"
"Yeah his name is Conner. But....he got sucked into another dimension. Whole thing with this guy name Holtz and some prophecies. It was this whole...deal with..."
"...oh. Gotcha.....so you got a son, and lost him through a portal."
"Yeah..."
"...not quite father of the year material, huh?"
"...no.......not really."
*silence*
Angel definitely didn't want to have another conversation like that. Best to just pay her a visit. Show that he cares...show that he cares, but not too much...well not like he doesn't want to care too much, but not in the way that they should...
Maybe this wasn't a good idea.
As he approached front steps, he sensed a presence. He paused looking around but found nothing. He ignored it, took a deep breath and knocked on the door. Here goes nothing.
