Desired Character: Dawn Summers
Appears in: Buffy.
Character description
Age: 16
Personality: Dawn is first and foremost a private person, anything bothering her she tends to brush off, it usually takes some kind of demon-y thing to bring anything to the surface. She's usually with the optimism and smiles.
She tends to feel like invisible-girl, or that people might not want her around. On that note Dawn has a slight klepto problem, she steals not because she wants things usually but because it makes her feel important. Like something that's her's, not... overshadowed by Buffy. The more she gets away with it, the better she feels about herself.
While she loves her big sister, and usually wants her attention -- but Dawn does feel like she has a big sign sticking over head that says 'Buffy's LITTLE sister -- Please give crayons and a coloring book!' and at the same time she wouldn't trade having her big evil butt-kicking sister around for anything in the world.
This also means Dawn tries to act more grown up than she actually is, but you'll find her sitting in front of the boob-tube with old fashioned cartoon violence.
Another thing that sticks out about Dawn is that those who are loyal to her, she is usually loyal back to... even if they might be wrong for the most part. She'll defend. Betray her, do something to put her in danger or someone she loves in danger and she'll be little woman scorned.
Of course Dawn has Key issues, but she's been trying to put the whole 'I'm not a real person?' thing behind her. Overall she's a good kid, happy kid, likes being happy.
Background: She has the memories of her childhood all intact despite the fact that they never actually happened, but since everyone else also has these memories they're pretty much real. Buffy was an only child until she popped up.
On the short end Dawn was born no more than two years ago through some old monk guys, a human form built around an ancient green energy called 'The Key.' Coming to that conclusion was when Glory, a hell god from another dimension, was on rampage searching for the key.
No one was aware that Dawn was even such a thing, infact they were unware that she wasn't even in their lives prior to these events; because Tara McClay lost her mind to Glory's tasteless and selfish wanderings, the poor girl finally revealed to the Hell God and her minions that the big shiny green thing existed.
In the form of the slayer's sister. Made from the slayer infact.
With Joyce Summers battling for her life against cancer, this was a lot for Buffy, Dawn and the gang to take in. But eventually everyone came to terms... it just took Dawn a little longer. After the summer sister's mother died, it was a lot harder to take from there -- Glory wasn't taking no for an answer, including going through each scooby member to get to the key if that's what it took.
By the end of it... Buffy gave up her life in place of Dawn. Dawn never wanted it to happen and had feelings of unworthiness, and loneliness but didn't realize the consequences of dead sis coming back when it didn't take long for the others to think magic + dead slayer/sister/friend = resurrection.
With Buffy's return and what Dawn felt was neglectfulness, the relationship between the two and several other scooby members was a bit strained. With things like staking your first kiss and potential boyfriend, accidently locking your family in a house and losing everyone around you occur.
That was certainly a rough year, because besides being down in the dumps about herself she was also worried about Buffy and what she would do with her life, but after sometime Dawn really proved her worth as a member of the scooby gang. Handling Puberty on a more calm lady like level -- she's even picked up more on those dusty books and learned quite a few languages.
Classification: Human [Key, Thing]
Good or Evil?: For the most part Good... but she does have some tendencies to do bad... not altogether evil.
RP Sample: Sunnydale Highschool’s lunch room was packed with a steaming variety of teenager, there were the jocks who found it funny to pick on the passing nerds who found it amusing that one day very soon they would be said jocks employers and could making their lives a living hell. The in club which consisted of many vain and shallow girls holding their afternoon fashion bash awards where hardly anyone won and those who had enough sense to win would be put down and confidence stripped anyway -- then there were the goth and emo kids, whatever they wanted to be called, dressed in dark make up in a corner of the vast room trying to stay as far away from light as possible.
They only whispered amongst themselves usually, except when commenting on how shallow everyone was that walked by … and then there was Dawn Summers, normal, pretty much average Jane sitting all by her lonesome near a heavily sunlit window, enjoying the warm rays upon her bare shoulders. Head tilted downward as she smiled, humming a jaunty little tune, fingers wrapped tightly around a red crayon as she colored in the lines of her loony tunes coloring book. Yosemite Sam’s beard/mustache combo was attempting to get rid of Bugs Bunny via some hair induced spell, violently choking the life out of poor Bugs but that didn’t stop the muffled giggles that escaped.
“… What are you doing?,” A familiar voice popped up behind her.
Dawn paused for a second, eyes slanting to the side. “Um…” Hands jerking up to cover her ‘shame’ from view.
“Is that… a coloring book?,” Janice’s recognizable disbelief registered, finger poking out accusingly.
Dawn slammed her chemistry book shut over top of the coloring book pages with a giant pearly smile. “No-not at all. It-it’s just homework. I totally don’t color anymore, that‘s so kindergarden.” She laughed it off, rolling her eyesas they casted nervously from table to table but Janice gave a slow smile.
“Right…,” Janice started, holding her jacket in front of her, looking a bit embarrassed herself. “Is that…, the um, the Tweety and Bugs Bunny Edition?”
Dawn looked a bit shocked with a moment of mouth gaping, then recovered. “… Looks like I can't hide anything from you,” she joked half heartedly, ensuring no one else could see as she flipped open the cover like it was some great big secret. “But it is, way better than Pepe Lepeu and Wilie Coyote.”
Janice’s eyes lit up at the prospect. “I’ve totally been meaning to get to the store and buy it but you know… without family around…,” she sat down across from Dawn.
Dawn’s big blue eyes sparkled excitedly, digging into the box of new crayola and gingerly offering a blue crayon to her best friend. “Well… you can share with me if you want, it’s a big ol coloring book… doubt I could finish this all on my own.”
There was only a moment of hesitation as Janice grabbed the crayon, and the two ensued with giggling.
